ACTIVE DIRECTORY DOMAIN SERVICES
Active Directory Domain Services are included in most Windows Server operating systems. An Active Directory domain controller authenticates and authorises all users and computers in a Windows domain type network.
Our applications come in three different categories: software (for virtual servers), business applications and enterprise applications (including Cloud Collaboration - Microsoft).
A backup stores a copy of a virtual server's data. See the technical specifications for our backup options.
An IP-based data network solution comprised of IP connectivity (but not internet access or usage) and one or more standard IP WAN connections (such as ADSL, Ethernet Lite, Frame relay or Ethernet) for each site. A hosting port connection to your existing business IP network can be requested as a virtual server add-on.
A cluster is a group of resources you need in order to run virtual servers on dedicated compute. It contains at least two blades and associated storage. Once a virtual data centre is created, a cluster can be associated with it.
A communication solution providing IP WAN connectivity for business customers with Next G®. Connect IP leverages Telstra's Next IP® network to interconnect branch sites. A hosting port connection can be added to your existing Connect IP network.
An hour that a CPU is associated with a virtual server (e.g. a virtual server with two CPUs consumes two CPU-hours per hour).
A virtual server add-on, data import uses secure storage devices to transfer large amounts of data from in-house networks to the cloud.
DATA IMPORT STORAGE DEVICE
A storage device which is loaned to you (for a fixed fee charged per device) to assist with transferring large quantities of data to the cloud. The devices are available in a range of sizes.
A VMware® vCenter Server™ feature, a datastore is a unit of storage assigned to a customer cluster. When a datastore is created it is added to all VMware ESXi hosts in a cluster.
A virtual server add-on, it provides customisable virtual firewall tiers to virtual servers grouped into security zones.
GLOBAL IP VPN
Customers can access virtual servers in international locations using a Global IP VPN connection, with over 1,400 access points in 230 countries and territories, including extensive in-country reach in key Asian markets.
A hosting port creates a connection between Telstra's Next IP® network and a private VLAN. Virtual servers connected to a private VLAN can be integrated into a Telstra Next IP® network.
Hypertext transfer protocol is a web protocol that enables a client computer to communicate with a remote server via a browser.
A virtual server add-on that filters incoming and outgoing email to keep spam, viruses and inappropriate content off networks.
A virtual server add-on that provides fully managed web filtering and security to protect against malware, spyware and viruses.
Internet protocol metro area network is a simple way to connect offices within metropolitan areas to the cloud. A hosting port connection to your existing IP MAN network can be requested as a virtual server add-on.
Internet protocol security is an IP protocol framework that authenticates and encrypts IP packets to ensure the safe transfer of data.
Internet protocol security virtual private network is provides permanent secure site-to-site remote access between in-house networks and virtual servers.
Internet protocol wide area network is a high-quality managed service which provides a secure way to interconnect metropolitan, regional and rural offices.
The Cloud Services management console is used to self-manage virtual servers and resources and make service requests. Those assigned with Cloud Administrator status can access the management console. Server status, usage reports and activity logs can all be viewed here.
A network file system is a distributed file system used to access files across a network in a similar way to accessing files on a local file directory.
Your private interconnect lies between the cloud resources in your private network, and a private network connection (Telstra Next IP® network, Global IP VPN or IPsec VPN tunnel).
Your public interconnect exists between the cloud resources in your public network, and the internet. Virtual servers in your public network are accessible through the internet, via your public interconnect. Your public interconnect is non-configurable.
An hour that a GB of RAM is associated with a virtual server (e.g. a virtual server with 2GB of RAM consumes two RAM-hours per hour).
Recovery point objective
The maximum rollback point in time to which your data is restored during data restoration.
Recovery time objective
The time taken to restore or reconfigure your equipment and start the upload of data to the target systems during the restoration process.
SHARED USER LICENCE
A software licence that can be applied across multiple servers (a server farm). Where a user licence is shared, a separate licence for each server is not required, as long as each server remains part of the server farm.
Telstra's Cloud Services' service level agreements (SLAs) relate to availability and performance.
SMTP mail relay
A virtual server add-on, SMTP mail relay service is used to route and check any outbound email traffic originating from the cloud.
VIRTUAL SERVER SNAPSHOT
A point-in-time disk copy of data that's kept in primary storage for 24 hours.
The Microsoft Services Provider License Agreement (SPLA) we use to license the latest Microsoft software to customers.
Secure sockets layer: a security protocol used to create an encrypted link between the internet and virtual servers.
Secure sockets layer virtual private network: a type of VPN that can be used in a standard web browser to enable remote access to virtual servers.
An hour that a GB of storage is associated with a virtual server. The storage usage includes all virtual disks allocated to the virtual server.
The use of virtual software, platforms and servers to improve scalability and performance.
A virtual hard drive used to store data and operating system configuration.
A software implementation of a server which behaves exactly like a physical server but is not tied to physical hardware. Often called a virtual machine.
Virtual server resources
A virtual server can easily be reconfigured with virtual server resources such as CPU, RAM, IP addresses and storage.
VIRTUAL DATA CENTRE
A virtual data centre represents the collection of cloud resources drawn from a specific physical location. You can use virtual data centres in different countries and include multiple virtual data centres in the same location.
Virtual server add-ons
Includes our data import service, a Telstra private network, applications and security add-ons.
A virtual local area network connects virtual servers together or to a physical network such as the internet.
A virtual machine is a software implementation of a server or appliance which behaves exactly like a physical server or appliance but is not tied to physical hardware. Sometimes called a virtual server.
A virtual network interface card is a virtualised network interface that operates and looks like a physical network interface. It is also used to connect a virtual server to a VLAN.
Exploits a previously unknown vulnerability in a computer application, meaning that the threat or attack occurs on "day zero" of awareness of the vulnerability.
